The Laurie Dake Challenge

The Laurie Dake Challenge – previously known as the FIELD Challenge – is designed as a scientific competition between Student Chapters.

The challenge encourages cross-disciplinary teams made up of geophysicists and engineers to work on a predetermined data set. In order to be successful, integration between disciplines is key.

Each participating university will have a multi-disciplinary team of fulltime geoscience and petroleum engineering students, with a maximum of one PhD student per team. Each year EAGE receives entries from over 40 different universities from all over the world. The finalists will be required to analyze and propose a development plan for a discovered hydrocarbon resource. Each university team will have the same sponsored dataset to work with.

The challenge consists of three rounds. At the end of each round, a jury will determine who will advance to the finals, held at the EAGE Annual Conference. In these finals, the students present their solution to the problem in a dedicated event.

The finals will be held at the EAGE Conference & Exhibition, where each team will present their development plan to an expert jury. The Student Fund supports all selected university teams with three travel grants per team to attend annual conference.

Companies interested in providing a dataset for the finals of this prestigious challenge can contact the Student Affairs Coordinator (students@eage.org).
